I'm Coming Out

A new original one-hour documentary, which follows two men at very different stages in their lives as they prepare to reveal their true sexuality to their friends and families, will be screened on Monday May 24.

I'm Coming Out focuses on the lives of 24-year-old Ahmad, who was born in Cairo, and Neil, a 55-year-old British man who has spent his entire life in the closet.

Ahmad now lives a very openly gay life in London and is active on the club scene, even working part-time in a gay sex shop.

Despite his own comfort and openness with his sexuality, his parents have no idea that their son is gay.

What complicates Ahmad’s situation further is the fact that they are devout Muslims. The film follows him attempt to reconcile his sexuality with the religion he was brought up with and his family, who he hopes will finally accept him.

Neil, on other hand, has lived in fear of homophobia and the people he loves not accepting him for who he is.

Having only had casual encounters and short-lived flings he has had limited experience of the gay community and long lasting relationships.

Throughout the course of the film he comes out to friends, ex-colleagues and finally, in a dramatic confrontation, to his brother in Aberdeen.

Filmed over several months, the documentary is a sensitive and moving portrait of two men struggling for acceptance.

The documentary will be screened on Monday 24th May at 10pm on Current TV (Sky Channel 183/Virgin Media Channel 155)

WHAT YOU THINK OF US

I just happened to come across your site and it looks great. I am a make-up artist based in Cornwall and I have done a few lesbian weddings over the past couple of years and what surprises me is that they phone up and are worried that I may take offence that they are gay. It must be horrible to feel in that position so to have a magazine featuring people who are happy to make their day special is such a fantastic idea.

Just a quick email to thank you for my copy of the new magazine and to say how pleased I am to be part of it – I’m really impressed!  I love the tone of the editorial which has managed  to be informative without being patronising – a rarity in the world of wedding journalism, I find! Wishing you every success with the South West edition of Tickled Pink.
